25. In this regard, it is noted that the first meeting of the Follow-Up Commission for the Caribbean Sea Initiative was held in Trinidad and Tobago on 27 July 2006. The convening of this meeting is the result of a decision taken by the ACS ministers in March 2006 to devise a work programme to implement the Caribbean Sea Initiative in a more meaningful way.
25 - وفي هذا الصدد، يُلاحظ أن الاجتماع الأول للجنة متابعة مبادرة البحر الكاريبي عقد في ترينيداد وتوباغو في 27 تموز/يوليه 2006 وجاء عقد هذا الاجتماع نتيجة لقرار اتخذه وزراء رابطة الدول الكاريبية في آذار/مارس 2006 لوضع برنامج عمل لتنفيذ مبادرة البحر الكاريبي بطريقة أكثر جدوى.

6. The decision taken by the Summit established a high-level intra-Caribbean forum for consultation and concerted action towards this common goal and reiterated to the international community the political will of the Greater Caribbean region to pursue the Caribbean Sea Initiative.
6 - وأنشأ المقرر الذي اتخذه مؤتمر القمة منتدى رفيع المستوى للتشاور والعمل المنسق داخل منطقة البحر الكاريبي بغية تحقيق هذا الهدف المشترك وأكد مجددا للمجتمع الدولي الإرادة السياسية التي تبديها منطقة البحر الكاريبي الكبرى نحو متابعة مبادرة البحر الكاريبي.

25. the Caribbean Sea Initiative had reached a new stage of implementation with the establishment by the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) of the Follow-Up Commission for the Caribbean Sea Initiative, which, in an effort to develop a better understanding of the concept of " special area in the context of sustainable development " , had proposed a definition of the Caribbean Sea as a special area.
25 - وقالت إن مبادرة البحر الكاريبي وصلت إلى مرحلة جديدة من التنفيذ بإنشاء رابطة الدول الكاريبية لجنة متابعة لمبادرة البحر الكاريبي، سعت إلى تطوير تفهُّم أفضل لمفهوم " منطقة خاصة في سياق التنمية المستدامة " ، فاقترحت وضع تعريف للبحر الكاريبي كمنطقة خاصة.

6. The Caribbean Sea Commission, at its most recent meeting held in July 2008, finalized its Plan of Action and programme of activities. The report of the Association of Caribbean States, attached as an annex to the present report, provides a comprehensive account of the technical, administrative and political initiative being invested in the Caribbean Sea Initiative.
6 - وأنجزت لجنة البحر الكاريبي خطة عملها وبرنامج أنشطتها في أحدث اجتماع عقدته في تموز/يوليه 2008، ويقدم تقرير رابطة دول البحر الكاريبي، المُلحَق كمرفق لهذا التقرير، سردا شاملا للتدابير الفنية والإدارية والسياسية التي تُستَثمر حاليا في مبادرة البحر الكاريبي.

7. In the past two years, there has been slow but steady progress in respect of institutionalizing the Caribbean Sea Commission as a key mechanism for ocean governance and sustainable development of the wider Caribbean region and for achieving the goals of the Caribbean Sea Initiative.

In that context, the Technical Advisory Group will advise ACS and ECLAC on the most appropriate and effective means of presentation ( " packages " ) for technical data to be used in support of the Caribbean Sea resolution and, when required, will act as technical adviser to ACS and ECLAC or their members, in regional or international forums, in relation to the Caribbean Sea Initiative.
