At the same meeting, Mrs. Julia Tavares de Alvarez (Dominican Republic), in her capacity as Coordinator of the Consultative Group for the International Year of Older Persons and also on behalf of Mr. Aurelio Fernández (Spain) in his capacity as Coordinator of the Consultative Group, made an oral report on the activities of the Consultative Group in assisting the Commission for Social Development in the preparations for the Year (1999).

6. Welcomes the redesignation of the intergovernmental support group as the Consultative Group for the International Year of Older Persons, and invites it to continue its contributions to the observance of the Year;

87. Her delegation welcomed the activities of the Consultative Group for the International Year of Older Persons and supported the proposal by the Commission for Social Development to explore the feasibility of an ageing-related development index for inclusion in the Human Development Report.
