The partnerships mechanism in the context of the World Conference on Disaster Reduction (WCDR) is proposed by the Secretariat.

43. In the context of the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, the Islamic Republic of Iran will be hosting the Asian preparatory meeting.

The intersectionality concept, which refers to the multiple forms of discrimination an individual can face, had been raised at several regional and expert meetings and it was felt that the clarification of the concept would be valuable in the context of the World Conference.

In October 2003, OHCHR sent notes verbales to States, United Nations bodies and specialized agencies, international and regional organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), requesting complementary information on follow-up and implementation activities undertaken in the context of the World Conference.

This standardsetting effort could be formalized and supported through the adoption of targeted resolutions dealing specifically with the issue of racial discrimination and religious intolerance in education in the context of the World Conference against Racism and the international consultative conference on school education in relation to freedom of religion and belief, tolerance and nondiscrimination;

Regarding contemporary forms of racism, he wondered whether the Special Rapporteur considered that they were linked with new forms of criminal behaviour, inter-ethnic conflict and economic discrimination. He also wondered what specific proposals the Special Rapporteur intended to put forward with regard to education in the context of the World Conference.
