178. In its resolution 2004/56, the Commission requested the Secretary-General to report to it at its sixty-second session on the status of the Convention and on the efforts made by the Secretariat to promote the Convention and the protection of the rights of migrant workers.

In accordance with the decisions taken by the Meeting of the States Parties to the Convention in 2005 (CCW/MSP/2005/2), the Group of Governmental Experts devoted time for the consideration of the possibility to establish a sponsorship programme under the Convention and on the modalities of such a sponsorship programme at the plenary meetings on 30 August, 4 and 6 September 2006.
