10. The report of the eighth meeting of persons chairing the human rights treaty bodies, which has been made available to the Committee members, raises a number of issues pertinent to the work of the Committee.

The Secretary-General has the honour to transmit to the General Assembly the report of the eighth meeting of persons chairing the human rights treaty bodies, convened in Geneva from 15 to 19 September 1997, pursuant to General Assembly resolution 51/87 of 12 December 1996.

41. In the report of the eighth meeting of persons chairing the human rights treaty bodies,12 the chairpersons drew attention to the fact that the members of three committees receive honoraria, while those of the other three do not.

298. The Chairperson, Mrs. Sandra Prunella Mason, informed the Committee about the main decisions taken and recommendations made by the eighth meeting of persons chairing the human rights treaty bodies, which had met in Geneva from 15 to 19 September 1997 (see A/52/507, annex).

Independence of experts (m) The seventh inter-committee meeting reaffirmed the solemn statement made by the eighth meeting of persons chairing the human rights treaty bodies (A/52/507, paras. 67-68) in 1997 about the necessity to safeguard the independence of treaty body experts.
(م) أعاد الاجتماع السابع المشترك بين اللجان تأكيد البيان الرسمي الصادر في عام 1997 عن الاجتماع الثامن لرؤساء الهيئات المنشأة بمعاهدات حقوق الإنسان (A/52/507، الفقرتان 67 و 68) بشأن ضرورة ضمان استقلالية الخبراء العاملين في الهيئات المنشأة بمعاهدات.

(j) The ninth inter-committee meeting reiterated the solemn statement made by the eighth meeting of persons chairing the human rights treaty bodies (see A/52/507, paras. 67-68) in 1997 about the necessity to safeguard the independence of treaty body experts.

The Office of the High Commissioner ensured that the question of the human rights implications of human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) was included in the agenda of the eighth meeting of persons chairing the human rights treaty bodies, in accordance with the Glen Cove recommendations.
