Norwegian experts have suggested an informal draft for a new Somali law on the territorial sea, the contiguous zone and the exclusive economic zone of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

It is therefore welcome that, on 4 December 2013, at an open-day event on women, peace and security, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, made a commitment to address the issues of investigations and access to services, promising that no more alleged rape victims would be imprisoned and that a specialized crime unit and dedicated clinic would be created to deal with cases of sexual violence.

Urges the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia and subnational authorities to seek the tangible and timely assistance from, inter alia, regional bodies to reform the Somali judiciary system, to select and enhance the capacity of the Somali judges inside the country, with a particular focus on the promotion and protection of human rights and, in this regard, calls upon all States to provide assistance;

On the basis of this baseline, the Norwegian Mapping Authority has computed the outer limits of the territorial sea (12 nautical miles), the future contiguous zone (24 nautical miles) and the future exclusive economic zone (200 nautical miles) of the Federal Republic of Somalia through geographical coordinates of points, specifying the geodetic datum (WGS84).
