Let me now offer a few thoughts that I hope will not only enrich the debate but will also help us, notably within the United Nations system, to devise strategies whereby we can deliver more effectively in the field of democracy.

The European Union viewed its activities in the field of democracy and human rights as a pillar of its work towards poverty reduction, sustainable development, peace and security.
ويعتبر الاتحاد الأوروبي أنشطته في مجال الديمقراطية وحقوق الإنسان بمثابة دعامة لعمله من أجل القضاء على الفقر وتحقيق التنمية المستدامة وإقرار السلام والأمن.

In that connection, it might propose the establishment of a formal structure for the exchange of information among States in the field of democracy and for training to resolve and overcome the conflicts which arise in a democratic society, since dialogue may not produce solutions when the situation demands.

وإذ تسلم بأن عددا كبيرا من الدول تشارك الآن في المؤتمرات الدولية للديمقراطيات الجديدة أو المستعادة، وتعمل مع جمع من البرلمانيين والمنظمات الدولية وعدد كبير من المنظمات غير الحكومية النشطة في مجال الديمقراطية من جميع أنحاء العالم،

The Government of Norway has established a Trust Fund for Good Governance in Africa and the Norwegian Resource Bank for Democracy and Human Rights, which provides experts in the field of democracy and human rights, is also available for use by the United Nations and others to support activities in Africa.

The establishment of the International Conference on New and Restored Democracies has created an opportunity for democratic countries around the world, new and old, to share their experiences and best practices in the field of democracy, and to initiate research at the national, regional and international level.
وقد أتاح إنشاء المؤتمر الدولي للديمقراطيات الجديدة والمستعادة فرصة للبلدان الديمقراطية في شتى أصقاع العالم، الحديثة منها والقديمة، لتبادل خبراتها وممارساتها الفضلى في مجال الديمقراطية وللشروع في البحوث على الصعد الوطنية والإقليمية والدولية.

56. The United Nations aims to increasingly support the exchange of best practices with and between regional organizations, in the field of democracy.
56 - وترمي الأمم المتحدة إلى تقديم دعم متزايد لتبادل الممارسات المثلى مع المنظمات الإقليمية وفيما بين هذه المنظمات في مجال الديمقراطية.

The IPU will therefore continue its efforts to build capacity within parliaments, promote the political participation of women, defend and promote human rights and also contribute to the setting of internationally accepted standards in the field of democracy.
