Systematic observation26 The SBSTA, at its twenty-third session, requested the secretariat of the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) to provide, at its thirtieth session, a comprehensive report on progress made with the GCOS implementation plan.
30- طلبت الهيئة الفرعية للمشورة العلمية والتكنولوجية، في دورتها الثالثة والعشرين، إلى أمانة النظام العالمي لمراقبة المناخ أن تقدم، في دورتها الثلاثين، تقريراً شاملاً عن التقدم المحرز في خطة تنفيذ النظام العالمي لمراقبة المناخ.

The SBSTA also invited Parties to submit to the secretariat additional information on their national activities with respect to implementing this plan.27 This information has been posted on the UNFCCC website.28 The comprehensive report on progress made with the GCOS implementation plan to be provided by the GCOS secretariat will be included in document FCCC/SBSTA/2009/MISC.7.

The SBSTA, at the same session, agreed to revise the " UNFCCC reporting guidelines on global climate change observing systems " in order to reflect the priorities of the GCOS implementation plan and incorporate the reporting on essential climate variables.

The SBSTA expressed its appreciation to the GCOS secretariat for preparing a proposal for the possible revision of the " UNFCCC reporting guidelines on global climate change observing systems " (FCCC/SBSTA/2006/MISC.12) to reflect priorities of the GCOS implementation plan.

The SBSTA welcomed the report submitted by the United States of America on behalf of CEOS (FCCC/SBSTA/2006/MISC.14), which describes the coordinated response by space agencies involved in global observations to the needs expressed in the GCOS implementation plan.

Parties should also provide a narrative report on those atmospheric elements of the GCOS implementation plan that are less quantifiable with the aim of making changes and improvements to the climate observing system as a whole so that it meets the requirements of the Convention (see para. 15 below). Table 1a.

The SBSTA expressed its appreciation for the report on progress with the Implementation Plan for the Global Observing System for Climate in Support of the UNFCCC (hereinafter referred to as the GCOS implementation plan) prepared by the secretariat of GCOS under the guidance of the GCOS Steering Committee, and for the synthesis report on national information on systematic observations for climate.
