25. During the period reviewed in this report, the situation in the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone has, unfortunately, not improved.

With the beginning of the war in August 2008, the Georgian Government directly called upon the leaders of the Abkhaz separatist regime not to violate the ceasefire agreement and not to get involved in military action, in order to retain general stability and peace within the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone.

In a report submitted to the Security Council on 3 October 2008, the Secretary-General noted that the outbreak of hostilities in South Ossetia on 7 and 8 August 2008 had profoundly impacted the situation in the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone and the overall conflict settlement process (S/2008/631).
