The Conference of the Parties at its first session (COP 1), by its decision 6/CP.1, characterized the role of the SBI as that of developing recommendations to assist the COP in the review and assessment of the implementation of the Convention and in the preparation and implementation of its decisions.

The national focal points for the Strategic Approach are routinely invited to participate in national and subregional meetings on the implementation of the Convention and in synergies workshops.

٦-٧٣ في ضوء الحقوق والالتزامات الناشئة عن بدء نفاذ اتفاقية اﻷمم المتحدة لقانون البحار، ستتلقى الدول اﻷعضاء، وبخاصة الدول النامية، مساعدة في تنفيذ الاتفاقية وفي تطوير وتعزيز قدراتها بغية تمكينها من الاستفادة تماما من النظام القانوني للبحار والمحيطات المنشأ بموجب الاتفاقية.
