During the past year, motivated by the review of the implementation of the Yokohama Strategy and its Plan of Action1 and the preparations for the World Conference on Disaster Reduction, the Inter-Agency Task Force on Disaster Reduction and the Strategy secretariat have increasingly served as a reference centre and information clearing house on disaster risk reduction issues, involving Governments and expert organizations.

Despite the renewed emphasis placed upon natural disaster reduction as generated by the World Conference and contrary to the strong support expressed for the implementation of the Yokohama Strategy and Plan of Action, substantive additional resources have not come forward.
