At the 5413th meeting, in accordance with the understanding reached in the Council's prior consultations, the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Council's provisional rules of procedure to Salim A. Salim, African Union Special Envoy for the inter-Sudanese peace talks on Darfur and Chief Mediator.

Pursuant to the decision taken at the 5413th meeting, the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Council's provisional rules of procedure to Salim A. Salim, African Union Special Envoy for the inter-Sudanese peace talks on Darfur and Chief Mediator.
وعملا بالقرار المتخذ في الجلسة 5413 وجه الرئيس، بموافقة المجلس، دعوة بموجب المادة 39 من النظام الداخلي المؤقت للمجلس إلى سالم أحمد سالم، المبعوث الخاص للاتحاد الأفريقي لمحادثات السلام بين الأطراف السودانية بشأن دارفور وكبير الوسطاء.

23. During the reporting period, a concerted push was made by the African Union (AU) mediation team and participants in the inter-Sudanese peace talks in Abuja to conclude the peace negotiations.

On 25 April, in a statement by the President (S/PRST/2006/17), the Council reiterated its full support for the inter-Sudanese peace talks in Abuja on the conflict in Darfur.

9. As at mid-March 2006 the seventh round of the inter-Sudanese peace talks on Darfur were continuing in Abuja ( " Abuja VII " ).

23. Despite the strenuous efforts of the African Union Chief Mediator of the inter-Sudanese peace talks on the conflict in Darfur, Dr. Salim Ahmed Salim, the seventh round of the inter-Sudanese peace talks, which started in Abuja on 29 November 2005, has made slow progress.

يشرفني بصفتي ممثلا للرئيس الحالي للاتحاد الأفريقي أن أحيل إليكم طيه، باللغتين الانكليزية والفرنسية، البلاغ المتعلق بالتحضير للجولة السابعة لمحادثات السلام بين الأطراف السودانية بشأن الصراع في دارفور، الصادر عن مجلس السلام والأمن للاتحاد الأفريقي، في اجتماعه الثالث والأربعين، المعقود في أديس أبابا في 22 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2005 (انظر المرفق الأول).

The Chairman of the AU Commission, Alpha Oumar Konaré, also announced the appointment of a senior mediator, Salim A. Salim, as the AU Special Envoy for the inter-Sudanese peace Talks on Darfur.
كما أعلن ألفا عمر كوناري رئيس لجنة الاتحاد الأفريقي تعيين سالم أ. سالم كبيرا للوسطاء بوصفه المبعوث الخاص للاتحاد الأفريقي إلى محادثات السلام السودانية المشتركة المعنية بدارفور.
