ولما كانت هذه هي الدورة اﻷخيرة للجنة قبل انعقاد الدورة التاسعة لﻷونكتاد، فقــد استعــرض الاجتمــاع ما أنجزته اللجنة من أعمال منذ عام ١٩٩٢، واقترح أن تنظر الدورة التاسعة فيما إذا كان الشكل الحالي لﻵليات الحكومية الدولية للاهتمام بتخفيف حدة الفقر هو الشكل المناسب، أو ما إذا كان من الممكن تصور ترتيب بديل لذلك.
