The recent report of the International Atomic Energy Agency has declared that all outstanding issues regarding the peaceful nuclear programme of the Islamic Republic of Iran have been resolved and confirmed for the eleventh time that there has been no diversion in the Iranian peaceful nuclear activities.

Unfortunately, during the last 12 months, in an unwarranted move, orchestrated by a few permanent members of the Security Council, the Council is being forced to take unlawful, unnecessary and unjustifiable action against the peaceful nuclear programme of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which presents no threat to international peace and security and falls therefore outside the Council's Charter-based mandate.

Upon instructions from my Government and with reference to certain distortions and allegations made against the peaceful nuclear programme of the Islamic Republic of Iran by certain Security Council members, in particular the United States of America, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and France, at the 6090th meeting of the Council, held on 10 March 2009, I wish to state the following:
