The Council noted with satisfaction the recent agreement concluded under the auspices of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) on extension of the current production ceiling, expressed the hope that all OPEC members would refrain from exceeding the set quotas and urged non-OPEC producers to cooperate with OPEC producers so as to strengthen oil prices and improve oil market conditions and stability.
ولاحظ المجلس بارتياح الاتفاق اﻷخير الذي تم التوصل إليه في إطار منظمة الدول المصدرة للبترول )أوبك( حول تمديد العمل بالسقف الحالي للانتاج وحث جميع دول المنظمة على عدم تجاوز الحصص المقررة، وحث المنتجين من خارج اﻷوبك على التعاون مع المنتجين داخلها لما من شأنه تعزيز أسعار النفط وتحسين اﻷوضاع في السوق النفطية واستقرارها.

In Central and West Asia, new partnerships, including with the World Bank, the European Commission, the Fund for International Development of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and bilateral donors, are expected to result in an increase of $9.1 million (27 per cent), from $34.1 million in 2006-2007 to $43.2 million in 2008-2009, for activities financed from the UNDCP Fund.

During the 1960s, they were joined by State-controlled companies such as Compagnie Française des Pétroles (France) and ENI (Italy). The situation changed with the emergence of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and nationalizations after 1972, when a large number of countries established State-oil companies, changing the ownership picture in the oil industry (Yergin 1991).
