She gave a brief account of the preparations for the Twelfth Congress to be undertaken by the Secretariat, such as the preparations for the regional preparatory meetings and the discussion guide, consultations with the Government of Brazil and the establishment of a UNODC coordination group.

A number of speakers drew the attention of the Secretariat to the need to strike a balance between issues related to crime prevention and issues related to criminal justice in the preparations for the Twelfth Congress and at the Congress itself.
131- ولفت عدد من المتكلمين انتباه الأمانة إلى ضرورة إقامة توازن بين المسائل ذات الصلة بمنع الجريمة والمسائل ذات الصلة بالعدالة الجنائية في الأعمال التحضيرية للمؤتمر الثاني عشر وأثناء المؤتمر ذاته.

It was suggested that future informal pre-session consultations of the Commission could devote time to the preparations for the Twelfth Congress, as well as to the draft provisional agenda, themes for thematic discussion and other substantive matters relating to items of the agenda of the Commission.

133- وأثار بعض المتكلمين عددا من الأسئلة فيما يتعلق بمشاركة اللجنة مشاركة مبكرة وتامة في الأعمال التحضيرية للمؤتمر الثاني عشر وتقديم إحاطات إعلامية بشأن جوانب إجرائية معيّنة تتعلق بتلك الأعمال.

At its eighteenth session, the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice discussed substantive and organizational aspects of the Twelfth Congress on the basis of a report of the Secretary-General on the preparations for the Twelfth Congress (E/CN.15/2009/9).
وناقشت لجنة منع الجريمة والعدالة الجنائية، في دورتها الثامنة عشرة، الجوانب الموضوعية والتنظيمية للمؤتمر الثاني عشر استنادا إلى تقرير من الأمين العام عن الأعمال التحضيرية للمؤتمر الثاني عشر (E/CN.15/2009/9).

Also in its resolutions 62/173 and 63/193, the General Assembly encouraged the relevant specialized agencies, United Nations programmes and intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as other professional organizations, to cooperate with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in the preparations for the Twelfth Congress.
4- كما شجَّعت الجمعية العامة، في قراريها 62/173 و63/193، برامج الأمم المتحدة والوكالات المتخصصة التابعة لمنظومة الأمم المتحدة والمنظمات الحكومية الدولية والمنظمات غير الحكومية ذات الصلة، وكذلك المنظمات المهنية الأخرى، على التعاون مع مكتب الأمم المتحدة المعني بالمخدرات والجريمة في الأعمال التحضيرية للمؤتمر الثاني عشر.

14. Requests the Secretary-General to ensure, in collaboration with Member States, a wide and effective programme of public information relating to the preparations for the Twelfth Congress, to the Congress itself and to the follow-up to and implementation of its recommendations;
