The representatives of the Governments of the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan and Uganda stressed that they remained deeply concerned about the threat that LRA represented to the region and condemned its continuing attacks. They highlighted the specific measures taken by their Governments against LRA and their cooperation within the framework of the Regional Cooperation Initiative.

The members of the Security Council and the Peace and Security Council welcomed the steps taken by the African Union Commission to develop a coordination mechanism between the Regional Cooperation Initiative for the Elimination of the Lord's Resistance Army and MISCA, in line with the relevant communiqués of the Peace and Security Council and with relevant United Nations Security Council presidential statements and resolutions.

At the same time, important challenges continue to hinder the effectiveness of the African Union Regional Task Force, including the ongoing crises in the Central African Republic and South Sudan and the absence of political authorization by all countries participating in the Regional Cooperation Initiative for cross-border military operations, particularly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The operations of the Regional Task Force continue to make a difference in the fight against the Lord's Resistance Army, although recent setbacks threaten to undermine the full operationalization of the Regional Cooperation Initiative for the Elimination of the Lord's Resistance Army and the implementation of the United Nations regional strategy.

Although communication is now established between the Regional Task Force headquarters and African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, the full operationalization of the Regional Cooperation Initiative for the Elimination of the Lord's Resistance Army is dependent on mobilizing the resources and equipment required to establish reliable communications between Regional Task Force headquarters and the three sectors concerned.
