٤ - وعقـد بعـد ذلك اجتماع رفيـع المستوى بين كبار موظفي أمانتي المنظمتين في ٤ تشرين اﻷول/ أكتوبر ١٩٩٦.

6. Welcomes also the intention of the secretariats of the two organizations to strengthen cooperation between them in the political field and to undertake consultations with a view to defining the mechanisms of such cooperation;
٦ - ترحب أيضا باعتزام أمانتي المنظمتين تعزيز التعاون بينهما في المجال السياسي وإجراء مشاورات لتحديد آليات ذلك التعاون؛

Since 1981, that cooperation continued to increase in the various fields, and periodic meetings continued to be held between the secretariats of the two organizations with the aim of coordinating efforts in those spheres.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Secretary-General of the Organization of American States shall take appropriate measures to ensure effective cooperation and liaison between the secretariats of the two organizations.
يتخذ اﻷمين العام لﻷمم المتحدة واﻷمين العام لمنظمة الدول اﻷمريكية التدابير المناسبة لضمان التعاون والاتصال الفعالين بين أمانتي المنظمتين.

His delegation noted with satisfaction the measures that had so far been taken, especially those relating to the organization of training seminars, the establishment of a United Nations liaison office with OAU and the mechanism that had been put in place for regular consultations between the secretariats of the two organizations.
وقال إن وفده أخذ علما مع الارتياح بالتدابير التي تم اتخاذها حتى اﻵن، لا سيما تلك المتعلقة بتنظيم حلقات تدريبية، وإنشاء مكتب اتصال لﻷمم المتحدة مع منظمة الوحدة اﻷفريقية، واﻵلية التي تم إنشاؤها ﻹجراء مشاورات منتظمة بين أمانتي المنظمتين.

8. The Department of Political Affairs is also responsible for the programme of cooperation between the United Nations system and OAU, including the organization of the annual meetings of the secretariats of the two organizations.
٨ - وإدارة الشؤون السياسية مسؤولة أيضا عن برنامج التعاون بين منظومة اﻷمم المتحدة ومنظمة الوحدة اﻷفريقية، بما في ذلك تنظيم الاجتماعات السنوية بين أمانتي المنظمتين.

In this respect, I take this opportunity to convey my warm thanks to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Kofi Annan, and to the Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Mr. Anders Johnsson, as well as to the staff of the secretariats of the two organizations, for their valuable assistance in support of the cooperation between the United Nations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The draft resolution calls on the secretariats of the two organizations to work in accordance with their respective competencies to increase the pace of their cooperation with one another in order to achieve the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and to enhance their ability to benefit their common interests and goals in the political, economic, social, humanitarian, cultural and administrative fields.
كما يطلب المشروع من الأمانتين العامتين للمنظمتين أن تعملا، كل في ميدان اختصاصها، على زيادة تكثيف التعاون بينهما بغية تحقيق المقاصد والمبادئ الواردة في ميثاق الأمم المتحدة وزيادة قدراتهما على خدمة المصالح والأهداف المشتركة في الميادين السياسية والاقتصادية والاجتماعية والإنسانية والثقافية والإدارية.

It is also recommended that the secretariats of the two organizations develop their contacts along more structured, regular and transparent lines.
كما يوصي التقرير بأن تطور أمانتا المنظمتين اتصالاتهما على أسس أكثر تنسيقا وتنظيما وشفافية.
