Lastly, the report of the Secretary-General on priority-setting (A/59/87) helped to highlight the difficulties associated with defining priorities other than those that reflected general trends of a broad sectoral nature, and demonstrated that resource allocation was a very crude instrument with which to measure relative priorities devoted to particular programmes.

While it supported the CPC proposal that it should take up the report of the Secretary-General on priority-setting (A/59/87) again at its following session, her delegation took issue with the content of that report, which set out a position that seemed to be directly contrary to the priorities established for the Organization's programmes.
