25. Mr. LUEDIG (Estonia) said that the report of the Secretary-General on the integration of the economies in transition into the world economy (A/48/317) made a valuable contribution by acknowledging that integration into the world economy would take place on a country-by-country basis.

2. At its 31st meeting, on 11 December, on the proposal of the Chairperson, the Committee decided to recommend that the General Assembly take note of the report of the Secretary-General on the integration of the economies in transition into the world economy (A/63/256) (see para. 3).

Mr. GOUMENNY (Ukraine) said that, while his delegation agreed with most of the views expressed in the report of the Secretary-General on the integration of the economies in transition into the world economy (A/48/317), the latter should have contained more substantive recommendations on the broadening of United Nations activities to support transition economies.
