In accordance with a request of the Statistical Commission at its forty-second session (see E/2011/24), the present report is submitted, summarizing the main conclusions of the seventeenth and eighteenth sessions of the Committee for the Coordination of Statistical Activities, held in New York on 21 February 2011 and in Luxembourg from 7 to 9 September 2011, respectively.

The present report provides members of the Council with information on the status of contracts for exploration following the approval of nine plans of work by the Council, on the recommendation of the Legal and Technical Commission during the seventeenth and eighteenth sessions of the Authority.
