During the course of 1994, in compliance with resolution 45/231 and, as I reported in document A/49/534, the Special Plan of Economic Cooperation for Central America (PEC) and the International Conference on Central American Refugees (CIREFCA) both came to an end.

In 1994, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) decided, with the agreement of the Central American Governments, to assign the outstanding balance from the Special Plan of Economic Cooperation for Central America to finance some activities aimed at the preparation of a new programme for the Central American subregion.
