53. At its 15th meeting, on 15 August 1996, the Special Rapporteur on traditional practices affecting the health of women and children, Ms. Halima Embarek Warzazi, presented her final report (E/CN.4/Sub.2/1996/6).

In resolution 2004/23, the Special Rapporteur on traditional practices affecting the health of women and the girl child was requested to submit an updated report at its fifty-seventh session.

1. In its resolution 1996/19, the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights set out the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on traditional practices affecting the health of women and the girl child.
1- حددت اللجنة الفرعية لتعزيز وحماية حقوق الإنسان، في قرارها 1996/19، ولاية المقررة الخاصة المعنية بالممارسات التقليدية التي تؤثر في صحة المرأة والطفلة.

In resolution 1999/81, the Commission also decided to approve the recommendation of the Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities that the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on traditional practices affecting the health of women and the girl child be extended in order to ensure the completion of her task.

25. On 17 February 1999, the Special Rapporteur on violence against women issued a joint statement with the Special Rapporteur on traditional practices affecting the health of women and girl children with regard to the decision of a French court to sentence a woman convicted of excising 50 girls to eight years imprisonment.
25 - وفي 17 شباط/فبراير 1999، أصدرت المقررة الخاصة المعنية بمسألة العنف ضد المرأة بالاشتراك مع المقررة الخاصة المعنية بالممارسات التقليدية التي تؤثر في صحة المرأة والطفلة بيانا بشأن الحكم الذي أصدرته محكمة فرنسية بالسجن ثماني سنوات على امرأة أدينت بإجراء عمليات ختان لـ 50 طفلة.

31. The Committee has requested that it be provided with the preliminary reports submitted by the Special Rapporteur on traditional practices affecting the health of women and children and is thus aware of the Plan of Action for the Elimination of Harmful Traditional Practices affecting the Health of Women and Children.
٣١- وطلبت اللجنة تزويدها بالتقارير اﻷولية المقدمة من المقررة الخاصة المعنية بالممارسات التقليدية التي تؤثر في صحة النساء واﻷطفال؛ وهي بذلك على علم بخطة العمل المتعلقة بالقضاء على الممارسات التقليدية الضارة التي تؤثر في صحة النساء واﻷطفال.

As noted by the Special Rapporteur on traditional practices affecting the health of women and children, violence is one of the crucial mechanisms by which women are forced into a subordinate position compared with men (E/CN.4/Sub.2/1995/6, para. 51).
وكما تلاحظ المقررة الخاصة المعنية بالممارسات التقليدية التي تؤثر في صحة النساء والأطفال فإن " العنف الذي يمارس ضد المرأة هو من الآليات الحاسمة التي تجبر المرأة على الخضوع للرجل " (E/CN.4/Sub.2/1995، الفقرة 51).

1. In its resolution 1998/16, the Sub-Commission recommended that the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on traditional practices affecting the health of women and the girl child should be extended to ensure the completion of her task, as called for in resolution 1996/19, and at the same time to enable her to follow up recent developments at all levels, including the General Assembly.
1- أوصت اللجنة الفرعية، في قرارها 1998/16، بتمديد ولاية المقررة الخاصة المعنية بالممارسات التقليدية التي تؤثر في صحة المرأة والطفلة لضمان إتمامها لمهمتها المحددة في القرار 1996/19، ولتمكينها في الوقت نفسه من متابعة الإجراءات المتخذة مؤخراً على كافة المستويات، بما في ذلك على مستوى الجمعية العامة.

Urges the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to provide administrative assistance to the Special Rapporteur on traditional practices affecting the health of women and the girl child of the Sub-Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights to enable her to proceed with her work;
