23.1 The biennium 1992-1993 witnessed a considerable build-up in activities related to African economic cooperation and integration as the region moved towards the implementation phase of the Treaty establishing the African Economic Community, which was adopted in June 1991 by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of African Unity (OAU).
