The latter should lead to rationalization of the work of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs while ensuring respect for the relevant outcomes of the major international conferences.

With regard to unregulated high seas fishing and irresponsible fishing practices on the high seas, which posed serious problems for countries whose economies depended on living marine resources, particularly the countries in the Pacific region, her delegation strongly supported the work of the United Nations Conference on Straddling Fish Stocks and Highly Migratory Fish Stocks.
