وقد أكدت الفتوى الصادرة عن محكمة العدل الدولية بالإجماع على أن ثمة التزاما على جميع الدول بالسعي، بحسن نية، إلى إجراء مفاوضات تفضي إلى نزع السلاح النووي بجميع جوانبه في ظل رقابة دولية صارمة وفعالة، وبالوصول بهذه المفاوضات إلى نتيجة.

Recalling that in the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the Legality of the Threat or Use of Nuclear Weapons it is stated that there exists an obligation for all States to pursue in good faith and bring to a conclusion negotiations leading to nuclear disarmament in all its aspects under strict and effective international control,

On 8 July 1996 the International Court of Justice, in its advisory opinion on the Legality of the Threat or Use of Nuclear Weapons reaffirmed, by the unanimous decision of all the judges of the Court, that there exists an obligation for all States to pursue in good faith and bring to a conclusion negotiations leading to nuclear disarmament in all its aspects under strict and effective international control.
وفي 8 تموز/يوليه 1996 أكدت محكمة العدل الدولية، من جديد في فتواها بشأن مشروعية التهديد بالأسلحة النووية أو استخدامها، بقرار توصل إليه كل قضاة المحكمة بالإجماع، بأن ثمة التزاما يقع على عاتق جميع الدول بأن تواصل بحسن نية وتختتم المفاوضات المؤدية إلى نزع السلاح النووي بجميع جوانبه في ظل رقابة دولية صارمة وفعالة.
