1. The Secretary-General has received notification of the resignation of Thomas Thomma (Germany) from the Committee on Contributions effective April 2009.

Accordingly, the General Assembly will be required to appoint, at its current session, a person to fill the vacancy for the remaining period of the term of office of Mr. Thomma, which expires on 31 December 2011.

The candidature of Mr. Thomma had been endorsed by the Group of Western European and Other States. If he heard no objection, he would take it that the Fifth Committee wished to recommend to the General Assembly the appointment of Mr. Thomma as a member of the Committee on Contributions for a term of office beginning on the date of appointment by the General Assembly and ending on 31 December 2008.

3. At the same meeting, the Committee decided, by acclamation, to recommend to the General Assembly that it appoint Thomas Thomma as a member of the Committee on Contributions for a term of office beginning on _ 2007 and ending on 31 December 2008 (see para. 4).

2. At its 41st meeting, on 11 May 2009, the Fifth Committee considered a note by the Secretary-General (A/63/102/Add.1) concerning a vacancy in the membership of the Committee on Contributions as a result of the resignation of Thommas Thomma (Germany).

24. The Chairman drew the Committee's attention to the note by the Secretary-General (A/63/102/Add.1) informing the General Assembly of the resignation of Mr. Thomas Thomma from the Committee on Contributions and requesting the Assembly to appoint a person to fill the remaining portion of Mr. Thomma's term of office, which would expire on 31 December 2011.

3. At its 96th meeting, on 16 May 2007, the General Assembly, on the recommendation of the Fifth Committee (A/61/562/Add.1), appointed Mr. Thomas Thomma as a member of the Committee on Contributions for a term of office beginning on 16 May 2007 and ending on 31 December 2008.

The Chairman drew attention to a note by the Secretary-General (A/61/102/Add.1) informing the General Assembly that, following the resignation of Ms. Sujata Ghorai (Germany) from the Committee on Contributions effective 14 March 2007, the Government of Germany had nominated Mr. Thomas Thomma to fill the resulting vacancy.
