During this year's session of the Preparatory Committee for the NPT Review Conference in May, we were asked what the value would be of an initiative for a nuclear-weapon-free southern hemisphere if it did not affect the freedom of the high seas and the rights of passage through maritime space.
وخلال دورة هذا العام للجنة التحضيرية للمؤتمر الاستعراضي لمعاهدة عدم الانتشار في أيار/مايو، سُئلنا عن الفائدة التي تعود من مبادرة لإنشاء منطقة خالية من الأسلحة النووية في نصف الكرة الجنوبي إذا لم تؤثر على حرية أعالي البحار وحقوق المرور في المجال البحري.

My delegation notes that draft resolution A/C.1/53/L.37, entitled “Nuclear-weapon-free southern hemisphere and adjacent areas”, makes reference to the applicable principles and rules of international law relating to the freedom of the high seas and the rights of passage through maritime space, including those of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
ويلاحظ وفــدي أن مشــروع القرار A/C.1/53/L.37 المعنون " المنطقة الخالية من اﻷسلحة النووية في نصف الكــرة الجنوبي والمناطق المتاخمــة " يشير إلى مبادئ وقواعــد القانون الدولي المنطبقة فيمــا يتعلق بحقوق المرور فــي أعالــي البحار وحقــوق المــرور في المجال البحري بما في ذلك ما ورد منها في اتفاقية اﻷمم المتحدة لقانون البحار.
