The present report responds to General Assembly resolution 54/232 of 22 December 1999 in which the Assembly requested the Secretary-General to report to it at its fifty-fifth session on the progress made in the implementation of measures, recommendations and activities relating to the first United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty, including an examination of the impact of globalization on the eradication of poverty.

The present report has been prepared in response to General Assembly resolution 54/23 of 10 November 1999, in which the Assembly requested the Secretary-General to submit to it at its fifty-fifth session a report on the special session under the agenda item entitled " Implementation of the outcome of the World Summit for Social Development and of the special session of the General Assembly in this regard " .
