Women's equal access to security of tenure is another concern, in a context of discriminatory access to land or housing (see A/66/270).

Furthermore, in order to uphold women's right to security of tenure within the context of domestic violence, women who are victims of domestic violence must also be able to enjoy security of tenure, such that they are allowed to reside in their own homes - regardless of title or formal ownership - whereas perpetrators may be removed.

While acknowledging the efforts undertaken by the State party under the Roma Strategy and Decade to improve the situation of Roma living in informal settlements, the Committee remains concerned about the housing situation of Roma, especially with regard to the lack of basic infrastructure and to their right to security of tenure (article 5 (e) (iii) of the Convention).

Commission resolutions 2001/28 and 2002/21 called upon all States to give full effect to housing rights, including through domestic development policies at the appropriate level of government and with international assistance and cooperation, giving particular attention to the individuals, most often women and children, and communities living in extreme poverty, and to security of tenure.
