10. The Council also decided that the Forum would hold its first organizational session in New York from 1 to 3 October 1997.

The Centre should present to the Commission at its eighth session proposals to improve the monitoring of the use and application by Member States of the United Nations standards and norms in crime prevention and criminal justice (para. 60).

In its resolution 1997/65, the Economic and Social Council decided to establish, under the aegis of the Commission on Sustainable Development, an ad hoc, open-ended Intergovernmental Forum on Forests as envisaged by the General Assembly, which would report to the Commission at its eighth session, in 2000.

However, in view of constraints of time and resources, the Forum may wish to seriously consider the advisability of preparing, at appropriate sessions, preliminary draft conclusions and proposals for action on some of the programme elements and subsequently to reconsider them collectively at the fourth session for inclusion in the report to the Commission at its eighth session.
غير أنه نظرا لضيق الوقت وقلة الموارد، قد يرغب المنتدى في أن يبحث بجدية مدى استصواب اعداد مشروع أولي للاستنتاجات ومقترحات العمل فيما يتعلق ببعض عناصر البرنامج في الدورات المناسبة، وفي إعادة النظر فيها مجتمعة فيما بعد في الدورة الرابعة من أجل إدراجها في التقرير الذي سيقدم إلى اللجنة في دورتها الثامنة.

8. The Subcommittee requested the Consultant to take account of the above-mentioned decisions in the preparation of the final draft of her report, which would be discussed during a special session of the Subcommittee to be held in March 2000, and to contribute to the preparation of the report of the Secretary-General to be submitted to the Commission at its eighth session.
