14. Ms. Toutkhalian (Armenia) said that the promotion of new and renewable energy sources was vital for Armenia, a small landlocked country without significant resources of coal, oil or gas.

Ms. Toutkhalian (Armenia): On behalf of the Group of Eastern European States, I would like to extend sincere congratulations to His Excellency Mr. Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann of the Republic of Nicaragua on his election as President of the General Assembly for its sixty-third session.
السيدة توتخاليان (أرمينيا) (تكلمت بالانكليزية): أود، نيابة عن مجموعة دول أوروبا الشرقية، أن أتقدم بخالص التهاني إلى معالي السيد ميغيل ديسكوتو بروكمان ممثل جمهورية نيكاراغوا بمناسبة انتخابه رئيسا للجمعية العامة في دورتها الثالثة والستين.

Consequently, the Commission held the first meeting of its forty-seventh session on 15 February 2008, immediately following the closure of the forty-sixth session, and elected by acclamation Kirsti Lintonen (Finland) as Chairperson of the Commission and Lilit Toutkhalian (Armenia), Tareq Md. Ariful Islam (Bangladesh) and Lorena Giménez (Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela) as Vice-Chairpersons.
وقد عقدت اللجنة أولى جلسات دورتها السابعة والأربعين في 15 شباط/فبراير 2008، مباشرة بعد اختتام الدورة السادسة والأربعين، وانتخبت بالتزكية كريستي لنتونن (فنلندا) رئيسة للجنة، وليليلت توتخاليان (أرمينيا) وطارق محمد عارف الإسلام (بنغلاديش) ولورينا خيمينيس (جمهورية فنزويلا البوليفارية) نوابا للرئيسة.

12. Ms. Toutkhalian (Armenia) said that her Government was deeply committed to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and had worked tirelessly over the past year to reduce poverty. Its pursuit of ambitious economic reforms had led to double-digit economic growth since 2002 and, consequently, to lower levels of poverty.
12 - السيدة توتخاليان (أرمينيا): قالت إن بلدها ملتزم التزاماً كبيراً بتحقيق الأهداف الإنمائية للألفية وأنها ظلت تعمل بلا كلل طول العام الماضي من أجل الحد من الفقر، وأن سعيها إلى تحقيق إصلاحات اقتصادية طموحة قد أدى إلى نمو اقتصادي تخطى نسبة 10 في المائة منذ عام 2002، وبالتالي إلى انخفاض مستويات الفقر.
