Ms. LOPEZ (Philippines), introducing draft resolution A/C.3/50/L.21 on behalf of the States Members of the United Nations that were members of the Group of 77, said that the draft resolution was an update of General Assembly resolution 49/160, dated 23 December 1994, on the proposed merger of INSTRAW and UNIFEM.

Mr. Mofobeng (South Africa), introducing draft resolution A/C.3/53/L.57 on behalf of the States Members of the United Nations that were members of the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries and also China, drew attention to the third preambular paragraph and paragraph 3 of the draft resolution, which stressed the need to enhance international cooperation in order to ensure the promotion and protection of human rights.
