In paragraph 35.7, the second sentence should end with the words " development and human rights " , and the clause " and that assistance be provided in the human rights aspects of democratic elections " should be replaced by the clause " In this context, assistance provided upon the request of Governments for the conduct of free and fair elections, " which was contained in part II, paragraph 67, of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action.

Several delegations considered that UNEP's regional offices could play a useful role in helping developing countries to strengthen their capacity to implement Agenda 21. 5/ Some delegations stressed that the role of UNEP in providing information on sustainable development should be concentrated on environmental aspects of such development and that such information should be prepared upon the request of Governments.
