18. Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 62/232, OIOS conducted an audit of the use of extraordinary measures exceptionally authorized by the Secretary-General for UNAMID.

The Office of Internal Oversight Services started the audit of the use of the exceptional measures for UNAMID in January 2008 to (a) review the conditions which justified the use of extraordinary measures for UNAMID, (b) assess the adequacy and effectiveness of the internal controls put in place to mitigate the risks associated with their use; and (c) determine whether the expected results had been achieved.
