33. In response to the note verbale addressed to them by OHCHR, Member States have shared information about a wide range of initiatives undertaken to prevent violence against journalists and media workers, to ensure accountability for such violence, and to promote a safe and enabling environment for journalists to perform their work independently and without undue interference.

At its 4th meeting, on 19 May, the Committee considered the status of responses to a letter addressed to States members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and a note verbale addressed to all Member States concerning the implementation of resolutions 1572 (2004) and 1584 (2005).
