We call upon all States, and in particular States of the region and other interested States, to put their full weight behind the impartial approach of the United Nations in Afghanistan and to fully support the United Nations Special Mission in Afghanistan. We would encourage the Head of the Special Mission to continue and expand his consultations with States of the region and other interested States.

Ms. Dengo (Costa Rica), speaking on behalf of the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States (GRULAC), encouraged the Director-General to continue developing coordinated activities with States of the region in UNIDO's three priority thematic areas in order to promote international cooperation for development and technology transfer.

(g) The Conference decides to establish a standing committee to follow up in the intersessional period progress achieved in the implementation of the resolution on the Middle East and to conduct consultations with States of the region in that regard, as well as to undertake necessary preparations for the convening of the international conference on the establishment of a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East.
(ز) يقرر المؤتمر إنشاء لجنة دائمة لمتابعة التقدم المحرز في الفترة الفاصلة بين دورة وأخرى بشأن تنفيذ القرار المتعلق بالشرق الأوسط وإجراء المشاورات مع دول المنطقة في هذا الصدد، وكذلك القيام بالتحضيرات اللازمة لعقد المؤتمر الدولي بهدف إنشاء منطقة خالية من الأسلحة النووية في الشرق الأوسط.
