Following the January 2007 parliamentary elections in Serbia, the number of women deputies in the National Assembly nearly doubled, from 12 to 20.4 per cent.

It was true that there had been a drop in the number of women deputies in the National Assembly, but women did participate fully in the economic, social, political and cultural life of the country, at the highest levels, especially in higher education and diplomacy.
