The Code provides for the protection of working women, with due regard being given to their physiological make-up and family role. It states that women may not be employed in such industries and hazardous occupations as are defined by the Minister of Labour in consultation with the authorities.
وقد أحاط هذا القانون المرأة العاملة بالحماية آخذاً بالاعتبار طبيعتها الخاصة بحكم تكوينها الفسيولوجي ووضعها الأسري، فنص على حظر تشغيل النساء في بعض الصناعات والأعمال الخطرة التي ترك أمر تحديدها لقرار من وزير العمل بعد استطلاع رأي الجهات المختصة.

The earlier code contained regulations that discriminated against women in terms of labour, in that it provided for a sex-based division of labour according to the old Principle VII, which read: “women may not engage in work that is not appropriate to their sex.” The present code categorically establishes men and women as equals in the arena of labour.
٠١١ - ويتضمن القانون السابق قواعد تمييزية ضد المرأة من حيث العمل نظرا ﻷن أحكامه تضع تقسيما جنسيا للعمل وفقا للمبدأ السابع القديم الذي ينص على أنه: " لا يجوز للمرأة أن تضطلع بأعمال لا تلائم جنسها " . أما القانون الحالي فيرسي، بصورة قاطعة، أسس المساواة بين الرجل والمرأة في مجال العمل.

The HR Committee noted with concern that, under customary law, inheritance and property rights of women are severely restricted and that under customary law, as well as under common law, women may not enter into contracts, open bank accounts, obtain loans or apply for passports without the permission of their husbands.

256 - أما عن الأعمال المحظورة على النساء والأحكام الخاصة بعمل النساء، فإن المادة 179 تنص على حظر تشغيل النساء في المهن والأعمال التي تجري تحت الأرض في أعماق المناجم، كما تحظر تشغيلهن في أعمال تنطوي على مخاطر جمة، أو تفوق قدراتهن، أو يمكن أن تتعدى على الأخلاق الحميدة.
