The purpose of the present report is to reflect the latest additional information on world population trends and policies and the relationships between population and the environment.

The Population Division, which is the technical secretariat of the Population Commission, is in charge of monitoring world population trends and policies through the study of mortality, fertility, internal and international migration and urbanization, and other demographic phenomena, as well as of coordinating the quinquennial review and appraisal of the progress made in achieving the goals and objectives of the Plan of Action.
