18. The Committee urges the State party to give priority attention to combating all forms of violence against women and girls, both within and outside the family, and to adopt comprehensive measures to tackle such violence, in accordance with its general recommendation No. 19 on violence against women, including by:

Ms. Mboga (Gabon) said that, while the Penal Code did indeed already cover violence against women, the Government was working on a bill on sexual violence -- one of the most serious forms of violence against women and children -- which was now being revised and improved by the relevant technical departments.

36. The European Union was working to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls. It acknowledged the efforts by the Secretariat and UNIFEM in that respect, and welcomed the Secretary-General’s report on violence against women migrant workers (A/54/342), whose protection merited special attention.
٣٦ - وذكرت أن الاتحاد اﻷوروبي يعمل على القضاء على جميع أشكال العنف الموجه ضد النساء والفتيات، ويعترف بالجهود التي تبذلها اﻷمم المتحدة وصندوق اﻷمم المتحدة اﻹنمائي للمرأة في هذا الصدد، ويرحب بتقرير اﻷمين العام عن العنف الموجه ضد العاملات المهاجرات )A/54/342( اللاتي تستحق حمايتهن عناية خاصة.

4. The Commission recognized that all forms of violence against women and girls violated the enjoyment of their human rights and constituted a major impediment to the ability of women and girls to make use of their capabilities, limiting their participation and agency in development, including in the achievement of the internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals.

(d) Raising public awareness of Law No. 954 (2013) on prevention of violence in the family and other legislation relating to violence against women through the use of media and educational programmes, as well as raising the awareness of law enforcement personnel, health service providers and teaching staff regarding all forms of violence against women and girls;
