Several countries had expressed interest in becoming members of the Scientific Committee and the draft resolution addressed several of the issues involved: the need for additional resources; the need to take into account the concerns of current members that an expanded membership would not hamper the Committee's efficiency; and the extension of the observer status of the six candidate countries for a further year.
