In a similar move, the United Sates has announced its willingness to write off up to half of the debt owed to it by the poorest African countries eligible under the International Development Association (IDA).

Bangladesh strongly supports the proposal made by the Secretary-General in his 1998 report on the causes of conflict and the promotion of durable peace and sustainable development in Africa (A/52/871) for conversion of all the remaining official debt of the poorest African countries into grants by the creditor countries.
وتؤيد بنغلاديش بشدة اقتراح اﻷمين العام في تقريره لعام ١٩٩٨ عن أسباب النزاع في أفريقيا وتعزيز السلم الدائم والتنمية المستدامة فيها (A/52/871) بأن تحول البلدان الدائنة كافة الديون الرسمية المتبقية على أفقر البلدان اﻷفريقية إلى هبات.

Creditor countries should also consider converting into grants all remaining official bilateral debts of the poorest countries and all creditors should also consider clearing the entire debt stock of the poorest African countries and LDCs.
وينبغي أن تنظر البلدان الدائنة أيضا في إمكانية تحويل جميع الديون الرسمية الثنائية المتبقية لأفقر البلدان إلى هبات، وينبغي أن ينظر جميع الدائنين أيضا في إمكانية إلغاء كل ديون أفقر البلدان الأفريقية وأقل البلدان نموا.
