239. The Code of Penal Procedure is clear in this connection when it states that it is the right of a person accused of something to be assisted by a defending counsel of his choice, an inviolable and unconditional right once the defendant has been summoned or arrested by the authorities.

Further, a detained person is entitled to have the assistance of a legal counsel, to be informed of that right and to be provided with facilities for exercising it.
