At its sixty-eighth session, the General Assembly called upon States to pay particular attention to the situation of women human rights defenders and requested the Special Rapporteur to continue to report annually on her activities to the Assembly and to the Human Rights Council in accordance with her mandate (resolution 68/181).

291. The General Assembly has called upon States, which have not yet done so, to ratify or accede to the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004 to facilitate its entry into force.

In paragraph 119 of resolution 64/72, the General Assembly called upon States participating in negotiations to establish RFMO/As to take a number of urgent actions in areas beyond national jurisdiction to address the impacts of bottom fisheries on VMEs and the long-term sustainability of deep-sea fish stocks.

At its sixty-fourth session, the General Assembly called upon States to take urgent global action to address climate change in accordance with the principles identified in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and invited the secretariat of the Framework Convention to report, through the Secretary-General, to the Assembly at its sixty-fifth session on the work of the Conference of the Parties (resolution 64/73).

In addition, in paragraph 120 of resolution 64/72, the General Assembly called upon States participating in negotiations to establish RFMO/As to adopt and implement measures in accordance with paragraphs 83, 85 and 86 of resolution 61/105, paragraph 119 of resolution 64/72, and international law, and consistent with the FAO Guidelines, and not to authorize bottom fishing activities until such measures have been adopted and implemented.

177. In paragraph 122 (d) of resolution 64/72, the General Assembly called upon States and RFMO/As to share information on vessels that were engaged in bottom fishing operations in areas beyond national jurisdiction where the flag State responsible for the vessels could not be determined.

At its sixty-first session, the General Assembly called upon States to take all necessary measures, in accordance with relevant provisions of international humanitarian law and international human rights standards, to prevent, combat and punish acts of hostage-taking, including by strengthening international cooperation in that field; and decided to remain seized of the matter (resolution 61/172).

In response, the General Assembly has called upon States to promote, through continuing dialogue and implementation of the assistance and cooperation provided in articles 24 to 26 of the Agreement, further participation in the Agreement by seeking to address, inter alia, the issue of lack of capacity and resources that might stand in the way of developing States becoming parties (see General Assembly resolution 61/105, para. 102).
