In either case, as registration of a document or notice in the patent registry gives superior rights, under the law recommended in the Guide, third-party searchers could rely on a search in that registry and would not need to search in the general security rights registry.

As this matter is beyond the scope of secured transactions law and, in any case, would require additional effort and expense by States, the Guide does not recommend that States that currently do not have a specialized registry for certain types of intellectual property create such a registry in order to permit the registration of a document or notice of a security right in intellectual property.
