It is important to recall that in the Millennium Declaration, adopted at the 2000 Millennium Summit, heads of States and Government also resolved to strive for the elimination of weapons of mass destruction, particularly nuclear weapons, and to keep all options for achieving that goal open, including the possibility of convening an international conference to identify ways to eliminate nuclear threats.

In its presidential statement of 26 October 2009 (S/PRST/2009/26), the Security Council reaffirmed its resolution 1809 (2008), in which the Council recognized the need to enhance the predictability, sustainability and flexibility of financing regional organizations when they undertake peacekeeping under a United Nations mandate, and expressed its intention to keep all options under consideration in that regard.
