The Georgian side is committed to finding a peaceful settlement to the conflict in Abkhazia, Georgia, and as stated on numerous occasions by President Eduard Shevardnadze, considers the peace process as the only acceptable way to the resolution of this problem.

3. On 20 September 1999, I discussed important aspects of the peace process, including the political status of Abkhazia, Georgia, with the President of Georgia, Eduard Shevardnadze, who had come to New York to address the General Assembly.
