With regard to the draft resolution contained in document A/C.1/50/L.17/Rev.2, introduced by the delegation of Japan and entitled “Nuclear disarmament with a view to the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons”, I should like to make the following remarks.
وفيما يتعلق بمشروع القرار الوارد في الوثيقة A/C.1/50/L.17/Rev.1 الذي عرضه وفد اليابان والذي عنوانه " نــزع السلاح النــووي بغية إزالة اﻷسلحة النووية نهائيا " ، أود أن أدلي بالملاحظات التالية:

21. On 3 November, Japan submitted a draft resolution entitled " Nuclear disarmament with a view to the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons " (A/C.1/50/L.17).

The President: For the sake of clarity, let me remind members that in the First Committee draft resolution C, entitled “Nuclear disarmament with a view to the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons”, was contained in document A/C.1/50/L.17/Rev.2.

This statement applies also to draft resolution A/C.1/50/L.17/Rev.2, entitled “Nuclear disarmament with a view to the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons”, which in its fifth preambular paragraph mentions the indefinite extension of the NPT.

In the light of General Assembly resolution 51/45 G of 10 December 1996, entitled " Nuclear disarmament with a view to the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons " , every nuclear-weapon State is invited to inform the international community of the activities and progress in the area of nuclear disarmament.
وفي ضوء قرار الجمعية العامة ٥١/٤٥ زاي المؤرخ ١٠ كانون اﻷول/ديسمبر ١٩٩٦، والمعنون " نزع السلاح النووي بغية إزالة اﻷسلحة النووية نهائيا " ، يُطلب إلى كل دولة حائزة لﻷسلحة النووية أن تُطلع المجتمع الدولي على اﻷنشطة المضطلع بها والتقدم المحرز في مجال نزع السلاح النووي.

They are reflected in two draft resolutions that are before the Assembly today and that in the First Committee were document A/C.1/50/L.8/Rev.1, entitled “Comprehensive nuclear-test-ban treaty”, and document A/C.1/50/L.17/Rev.2, entitled “Nuclear disarmament with a view to the ultimate elimination of nuclear weapons”.
فإن هذه اﻷهداف تتجلى في مشروعي قرارين مطروحين على الجمعية اليوم وذلك في وثيقتي اللجنة اﻷولى A/C.1/50/L.8/Rev.1 التي عنوانها " معاهدة الحظر الشامل للتجارب النووية " و A/C.1/50/L.17/Rev.2 التي عنوانها " نزع السلاح النووي بغية إزالة اﻷسلحة النووية نهائيا " .

This has been another of the reasons impelling Cuba to join with other States in proposing that the Conference on Disarmament should give priority to establishing a special committee on nuclear disarmament that would start negotiations on a phased programme of nuclear disarmament aimed at the final elimination of nuclear weapons by a specific date, through the adoption of a nuclear weapons convention.
وقد كان ذلك أحد اﻷسباب اﻷخرى التي حدت بكوبا إلى أن تضم صوتها إلى صوت الدول اﻷخرى التي تقترح أن يمنح مؤتمر نزع السلاح اﻷولوية إلى إنشاء لجنة خاصة تعنى بنزع السلاح النووي تشرع في إجراء مفاوضات بشأن برنامج لنزعه على مراحل بغية إزالة اﻷسلحة النووية نهائيا في أجل مسمى بموجب اتفاقية تعتمد في هذا الشأن.
