In a particularly significant step to increase the outreach of UNCITRAL to developing countries and to foster greater awareness of the need for law reform in the field of international trade law and coordination with regional economic organizations, an UNCITRAL Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific was established in the Republic of Korea, with support from the Government.

The Committee urges the State party to harmonize its civil, religious and customary law with article 16 of the Convention and to complete a law reform in the area of marriage and family relations in order to bring its legislative framework into compliance with articles 15 and 16 of the Convention.

In that context, speakers were unanimous in commending efforts of UNCITRAL aimed at ensuring effective implementation and uniform interpretation of international commercial standards through technical assistance with law reform in the field of commercial law.

In its previous concluding comments the Committee expressed concern that, " despite law reform in the field of employment, women remain disadvantaged in the labour market which is characterized by strong occupational segregation, and the persistence of a gender wage gap " (CEDAW/C/LBN/CO/2, para. 33).

Since the publication of the Law Reform Commission's Final Report in 1992, government attention to domestic violence has diminished significantly.
